Restaurant Update

For those planning their trips to the Cape, we offer some news and opinions.

The Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards have been announced.  Five of the top ten were in Cape Town, and four in the winelands, with Stellenbosch making a strong showing.  Johannesburg and Durban restaurateurs must be furious.  Top 10:

1. The Greenhouse, chef Peter Tempelhoff.  Top Restaurant.
2. Test Kitchen, chef Luke Dale-Roberts who took top chef honours,Cape Town
3. The Tasting Room,  chef Margot Janse,  Franschhoek
4. The Roundhouse, chefs PJ Vadas and Eric Bulpitt,Cape Town
5. Overture, chef Bertus Basson, Stellenbosch
6. Terroir, chef Michael Broughton, Stellenbosch
7. DW Eleven-13, chef Marthinus Ferreira,Johannesburg
8. JordanRestaurant, chef George Jardine, Stellenbosch
9. Nobu, chef Hideki Maeda, One&Only Cape Town
10.  La Colombe, chef Scot Kirton,Cape Town

Some opinion:  the bank of judges is gone, and judging is done, alone, by the editor of the magazine.  It’s one person’s opinion, which just ‘aint good enough.

Bizerca Bistro, which won Best Bistro, can easily stand above at least 4 in this list, but doesn’t cater to the fussy, over-laid table that the judge (singular) likes.  My review tomorrow!
