Indian food fills a strange place in the Mother City, perhaps due to the alternative curry traditions of it’s Malay inhabitants. There is the famous, but now overpriced and often disappointing, Bukhara. and there are a string of second rate places.
In the last year this seems to have changed, and a number of new more modern Indian restaurants have opened up.
Last night we finally got around to trying F.east, at the Abbey Manor end of Long Street. The restaurant is one floor up, with a nice balcony overlooking the busy street below, perfect for a warm evening. Inside is modern minimal. Unfortunately we we the only table there, at 8:30 on a Saturday night, and that made the atmosphere a bit bleak and empty.
The food made up for that. Rich and deeply flavoured curries, light naan, fragrant sambols. The wine list is a bit limited, but reasonably priced.
