Aubergine is one ofCape Town’s most sophisticated eateries, and did not appear on the two lists posted yesterday (Eat Out and Tripadvisor). Strange.
It does, however, feature on Rossouw’s Restaurants list (which will be explained here soon).
Chef Harald Bresselschmidt has won numerous awards (including making the San Pellegrino Top 100 Restaurants in the World in 2009).
The interior is classic Cape Dutch– which can seem a little stark and cold, especially in winter, but is trumped by perhaps the most professional service in Cape Town, a rarity.
Food is modern European from a changing menu, not cheap, and beautifully presented. Lunch specials are common, so look out for them. There is a Cinq a Sept (meaning 5-7) menu for early snacks and drinks.
Booking is essential, keep this one for a special occasion.
